What Does A Swollen Middle Finger Indicate Despite Taking Ibuprofen?
Question: My middle finger (RH) knuckle is swollen and red - and especially sore in the mornings. Bending it is difficult and painful and it is hard to do normal activities with it - even brushing teeth or using dental floss is painful. I am trying to take it easy and use my left hand as much as possible. This has been going on for over a month now - I take ibuprofen sometimes and am on an antiinflammitory - it still works for typing and playing piano ( I teach that for a living) but I want it to get well! What can I do?
Brief Answer:
Could be trigger finger or inflammation of the knuckle.
Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
Going through your complain and since you are able to play piano and type, In my opinion you are suffering from trigger finger of middle finger or synovitis (inflammation) of the knuckle joint.
I suggest pain killers and hot fomentation. Please get CBC and S Uric Acid (Blood Tests) and X ray of the hand, if there is no improvement with 10 days of treatment.
Thanks for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
