What Does High Serum Lipase With Biliary Dyskinesia Indicate?

Question: Hello, I was diagnosed with billiary dyskinesia since I was a teen. I would have pain on the right side of my abdomen mostly after fatty meals and learned to eat healthy within the time. In 2000 I was sent to the ER due to the severe stomach ache. After running variety of tests I was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I also had an ERCP done and it was negative. I was told that it could be my gallbladder but the doctors decided not to touch it as it did not have gallstones. Ten years later (2010) I was also in ER with pancreatitis. I had CT, MRCP tests done and they were negative. HIDA showed that I had low functioning gallbladder. My EUS showed no pancreas abnormalities but suggested mild gastroparesis. Last year (2013) my gallbladder was finally removed. I would say that I feel a bit better but still can not eat fatty or fried food. However, my most concern for now is my blood test: no matter when I have it (ten years ago, five years ago or now) my lipase level is 80 or 90. I wonder whether I have problems with my pancreas or it is normal? I would be thankful for any input as I am very scared about elevated lipase level.

Brief Answer: Its likely to be consitutional high normal level Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Serum lipase is just on the higher normal side. It is significantly elevated. Many of the individuals with biliary dyskinesia may have marginal elevation in lipase. In your case its likely that the baseline lipase is on higher side. Endoluminal Ultrasound(EUS) has not revealed any abnormality of the Pancreas, there appears to be no cause for concern. There is absolutely nothing to be scared of this lipase level. Rest be assured there is no cause for concern. In case you require any further assistance kindly revert back to me, will be glad to assist you.
