Question: I am 62 years old. 5 feet 9 inches tall and in good health and fairly active. I weigh 182 pounds. 10 days ago I started tracking my caloric intake with myfitnesspal. I have lost 3 pounds in 10 days. My goal is to get to 170 pounds. I have targeted 1500 calories a day. I have no trouble staying on that calorie level and I am not hungry at any time. My wife is concerned that i am pre diabetic since there is no way she thinks I can not be hungry on that level of calories. what do you think????

Hi

You are losing weight at a very safe level. We recommend that no more than 2 pounds per week be lost in order to make it a permanent loss by gradually changing eating ant activity. It sounds like you are doing well at the calorie level you are on and you are feeling well and losing the amount of weight you should be losing.

I did the calculations and the 1500 kcal diet is exactly what you should be on to be losing 2 pounds per week. Just try to get a balanced diet, include good fats like virgin olive oil, avocados (1/8 = 1 fat).

Thanks XXXXXXX One other question. The recommended allocation on the fitness app was 50% carbs 30% fat and 20% protein. Your thoughts???

Clarifications: With the 50% carbohydrates emphasize water soluble fiber such as oats and the skins off of fresh fruit as opposed to wheat fiber which is water insoluble fiber. Water soluble fibers help with the weight loss process. Adding a little yogurt with active cultures are good to help re-balance the "gut microbiome" as well. This is just a little additional nutritional information.

However, I think I have answered your question about your diet distribution. Keep yourself well hydrated with that high of a protein intake and choose lean protein sources. You seem to be doing that because you are losing the weight!~
