Brief Answer:
Kindly clrify the unit of the report.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM,

I am Dr Madhuri and will be answering your query.

The normal post menopausal estrogen level is between 0-30 pg/ ml. So according to me if the report given to you was in pico gram / ml then the levels are high and not low. Kindly confirm the unit [ like pg/ml or ng/dl and so on] first so that I may be able to help you better.

Normally the levels of estrogen are expected to be low after menopause. So a low level is a normal finding. On the contrary a high level is an abnormal finding. Levels above 45 pg/ml are needed to avoid the loss of bone mass due to low estrogen. This is the reason for prescribing hormone replacement therapy.

Please clarify if you are taking any replacement and also the unit of the test report so that I may help you further.

Hope this satisfies your query.
Thanks for using HCM.

I'm not sure what units are used here in Canada

Brief Answer:
Sorry for the delay.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

The report usually mentions something after the value. An example is if we measure our weight we say 50 kilos or 100 pounds and so on. So the report may be having something mentioned along with it.

Canada follows the SI system and the unit is usually pico gram. So your level ( if it is picogram) is normal or more than expected for a menopausal woman.

Kindly recheck with your doctor if he meant that the level was low or more than normal.

A low level is expected whereas a high level may be seen in women that have more fat as fat is also a source of estrogen. If the level is low by Canadian standards then you may need hormone replacement therapy to help prevent bone loss. So please discuss this with your doctor.

Hope this was helpful. Please feel free to ask any more queries.

Extremely sorry for the delay.
