What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?
Question: I had a recent colonoscopy and they found a hyperplastic polyp with marked cautery artifact, measured 0.1 cm. How likely is this to indicate some colon cancer? I've looked at some articles and it is unclear.
Brief Answer:
There is no cause for concern

Dear Mr XXXXXXX
Isolated small polyp is unlikely to be significant and indicate underlying malignancy. Many individuals do have such polyp in higher age. As the size is less there is no need for concern.
As the polyp was small and cautery( probe with monopoly current used) was used resulting in burn of polyp it would be still more difficult to comment on exact pathology.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you

Thank you. I appreciate your assessment. What is your recommendation for frequency of future colonoscopies?
Brief Answer:
No further surveillance needed
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir
If the previous colonoscopy revealed no other abnormality and there is no positive family history for colon cancer, then no further surveillance is needed.
Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life
