What Does My Ultrasound Scan Test Report Indicate?

Question: I am 52 years old, weigh 113 lbs and had my last period in 9/2014. I also have hypothyroidism and have been on Synthroid for 24 years. My OB/GYN did a blood test in 12/2014 and concluded I was in menopause. Because I had minor vaginal bleeding in 5/2015, my OB/GYN ordered an ultrasound of my endometrium which measured 4.3cm and then a biopsy which showed I had proliferative endometrium. I have been prescribed progesterone to take for 10 days per month for 6 months and then repeat the biopsy. In addition, my internist ordered blood work which I have attached. It shows that my FSH is 174.5 and my LH is 85.5 which are high even for postmenopausal patients. Please
comment on these high readings and any next steps I should take. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
High FSH and LH are normal phenomena

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
In my opinion usually during every menstrual cycle the FSH and LH will be raised leading to ovulation. But in menopause the ovulation doesn't occur due to shrinkage of ovaries so the FSH and LH continuously increase in response to it.
It is a normal phenomenon which occur during menopause so nothing to worry about it and no need to take action against it.
I have seen your tests results which are normal and within limits.
Even the biopsy dint show any pre malignancy or malignancy changes.
The bleeding might be due to hormonal imbalance seen during this period.
So dont worry. You need to be careful with postmenopausal osteoporosis and cardiovascular evaluation is to be done yearly.
I agree with your doctors opinion.
Exercise daily helps against osteoporosis.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.

would you expect the high FSH and LH readings to go down the longer I am in menopause?

Brief Answer:
Levels will decrease slowly with time

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
good day
The raise in this hormones is due to stimulus from pituitary hormone called as gonadotropin realizing hormone.
As time pass on this hormone will get weaker.
Then levels of estrogen,LH and FSH
will decrease.
Hope I am able to answer your query.
feel free to ask any further query.
