What Does My Ultrasound Scan Test Report Indicate?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
My wife is 24th week of pregnancy. Latest ultrasound test it has been found that "Enlarged Renal Pelvis of Right Kidney with AP = 8 to 9 mm. Early Congenital UPJ / Hydronephrosis of Right Kidney". Is it serious? Is it curable? Please let me know.
Regards,
XXXX
Please get a tertiary scan done and follow up closely
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
2. In pregnancy ultrasound the upper limit of kidney pelvis of the baby is 6 mm. If it is 8 mm then it is slightly enlarged.
3. I have seen that in many babies the kidney pelvis swelling will become normal on its own after 28 weeks. However I suggest you to get an opinion from a fetal medicine specialist, who might do another detailed scan and then guide you. Any major problems will be detected when doing a tertiary scan at a fetal medicine center. The chances of such a serious problem is rare and this scan shows only mild enlargement of right kidney pelvis in the baby.
4. You will also have to follow up with regular scans till delivery.
5. In most cases the baby will be born normal if other parameters are in normal range. Such babies require ultrasound scan after birth.
Hope your query is answered
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
