What Does Recurrent Fever With Low Vitamin D Level Suggest?
I have had recurrent fever for about a week. While I am fine now, my doc asked me to go for additional tests in cbc, urine, b12 and vitamin d. I am posting the results of the same as an attachment for a second opinion. Kindly guide me on the same. Based on the results my doc has prescribed vitamin d tab to be taken once a week for 3 months. B12 once everyday for 3 months. Hetrazan thrice a day for 3 days. And zentel once a day for 2 days.
Will answer one by one with the report.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to health care magic,
I have gone through all the reports you attached here.
1) Vitamin D is low,so continue taking vitmin D tablet or sachets (60000 IU) once a week for 3 months.
2) Vitamin B12 is also low,so continue medications for that.if you feel numbness or tingling occasionally then vitamin B12 injection can also be given every alternative day followed by oral tablets or capsules.
3) CBC is suggestive of eosinophilia and lymphocytosis ,so you take prophylactic hetrazan (DEC) as recommended by your doctor because there might be epidemic of the filaria in your area.So your doctor has given it.
Also,if you have a fever occasionally then you can take over the counter paracetamol 500 mg to control it but take only when fever is more than 100 degree F.
4) Considering your urine report which is occult blood-trace present,
I am agree with zentel 400 mg (albendazole) but only one dose is enough to kill all the worms.
Means in my opinion,no need to take two doses.I usually recommend my patients just a single dose of albendazole 400 mg because it has many side effects.
Overall,i would agree with your treating doctor means your doctor has prescribed the right treatment.
The opinion may vary between two physicians.
Hope this will help you.
Regards,
No need of further investigation at present.

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for the follow-up.
I have seen the extra page of that urine microscopic examination report which is normal.
Trace occult blood in urine could be normal finding occasionally,so there is no need to investigate it further at right now and especially when a person does not have any clinical symptoms.
You take the medicines which has been prescribed to you and you can go for repeat urine analysis after 1 week.
Hope you will understand now.
Regards,
