What Does Salty Taste In Mouth After Molar Extraction Suggest?
I had left molar extraction exactly 2 weeks back and I am still feeling salty taste in mouth with pain in left jaw and near ear.I consulted doctor, they got xray done of the area and said it has healed properly and they weren't sure of the cause of pain.
They have put me on another dose of antibiotics saying that it could be an infection. Will having infection have same amount of pain I had before extraction?
Please help, I am worried if there is some other problem.
antibiotics/infection induced, TMJ disorder, piroxicam
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
As far as the salty taste in the mouth is concerned, i have two possibilities. It can be because of the antibiotics you have taken following extraction. The other possible cause can be because of the infection which has resulted in pus formation that results in salty taste.
Nothing to be panic, If it is secondary to antibiotics, it will come down in 4-5 days. If it is because of the infection in the extracted site, it has to be treated with irrigation.
Regarding the pain in the left jaw and the ear can be because of the disc displacement in the temporomandibular joint secondary to keeping your mouth wide for long time during tooth removal. Nothing to be panic, you can take piroxicam tablets for a week. Do saline gargling, do not bite hard things.
For confirmation of the diagnosis, consult a good oral physician and get it evaluated.
I hope i have answered your query. If any queries are there, reply me back.
anti-inflammatory, analgesic
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
You can continue novaclox for a course of 3 days. Piroxicam is an anti inflammatory and analgesic which is very effective in TMJ disorders. So you can take it for 7days.
Before taking these drugs better to consult a oral physician and get the diagnosis confirmed. Because taking antibiotics for long duration may result in drug resistance.

analgesic, take it for 1 week, soft diet
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback. The medicine belongs to analgesic (pain killer) piroxicam group. You have to take it for a week. Along with the medicine you need to give rest to the joint by avoiding hard food, do not open your mouth too wide. It takes one week for the symptoms to come down.

continue the medicine, Consult oral physician
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback. You can continue the drugs for 3 more days and if it is not subsiding even after that you need to consult a good oral physician and get it evaluated. You need to take radiography like OPG and TMJ view to confirm the diagnosis. It is difficult to diagnose based on your description so direction clinical examination is mandatory.

The pain is subsiding gradually, but I am able to sense the vibration in my teeth as I speak. Is it normal?
common symptom, long standing mouth opening, soft diet
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
Nothing to be panic. It is quiet common to have these kind of symptoms when you have kept your mouth open for long time during the extraction. Nothing to worry. It will subside in a week. Do not bite on hard things and do not open your mouth too wide. You can give warm fomentation over th joint.
I hope I have answered your query. Take care.
