What Does The Following Biopsy Result Indicate?
Question: I received a pathology report following colonoscopy which states the following about a biopsy: Specimen is an apparent bisected colonic mucosal polyp containing many serrated glands, some showing nuclear stratification and occasional complex glands indicative of a serrated adenoma. The fragments are tangentially cut and the base is not clearly seen in these sections. What should the follow-up be?
Brief Answer:
Possible resection is advisable
Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam
I have worked through your query in detail.
It's advisable to go for surgical resection in case the adenoma is solitary .
Few ambiguous features like serrated margins and nuclear stratification are present.
Prophylactic resection is advisable.
Check with your Oncologist with regards to above opinion of Mine.
Post your further questions if any.
Thank you.
