What Does The Following Blood Test Report Indicate?
Question: I had a blood test for RPR/ VDRL (syphilis) and that showed a reaction so the doctor requested a further blood test for TPHA with titer. The result was "1:80 Dilution Positive" Question: what does this result mean and what treatment should I follow?
Brief Answer:
You have syphilis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
The results mean that you are POSITIVE for TPHA.
For primary syphilis, TPhA has a sensitivity of 85% to 100%, and a specificity of 98% to 100%.
So your results are fairly accurate.
The treatment for syphilis is primarily Injection Penicillin which you need to take after getting tested for penicillin allergy.
This medication is commonly prescribed and easily available in any local hospital and pharmacy.
