Brief Answer:
Gestational diabetes as per OGTT report.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for writing to us. I have reviewed attached report.

Followings are my comments:

1) Report indicates Gestational Diabetes as per Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. All values are above normal range.

In this case, you must consult with Diabetologist, dietician for diet chart as per her food habits and treating gynecologist for proper management.

2) I can suggest few basic things to control blood sugar level. It is must needed for fetal well being and to avoid associated complications. These are as follows:

a) Start diabetic diet. AVOID all type of higher carbohydrate items and sugary or fatty foods. Take more fresh vegetables and protein foods. Divide large meal in to 3 to 6 small meals. Drink more water. Calorie intake should be within 2000 to 2500 Kcal/ day.

b) She must walk for 30 to 45 min daily. Heavy exercise or weight loss is NOT recommended. Light exercise is permissible and she can go 500 meter to 1 KM (short distance).

c) Periodic monitoring of blood glucose and pressure is required. It can be done at home if you can arrange it. Blood glucose should be measured at 3 times on daily basis - before and 2 hr after (breakfast, lunch and dinner).

HbA1C level should be measured along with this. Abdominal Ultrasound scan (to detect Macrosomia) and other tests are to be done as per schedule.

d) If above measures fail to control blood sugar or there is excessive fetal growth, then oral hypoglycemic agent (like Metformin) or Insulin should be started after consultation with treating doctor.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish her good health and take care.
