What Does The Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I had an ultrasound at 29 weeks last saturday, report says grade 3 placenta, other things are normal. I want someone to verify. I think that has been wrongly diagnosed. I will be attaching the ultrasound image of placenta.

Brief Answer:
Can you upload report ? It is a normal finding

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Please upload the report of the ultrasound scan, not just the image.
And a Grade 3 placenta is a normal finding, it does not indicate anything abnormal.
Can you tell me what is worrying you about it ?
Also, please upload the exact report.
Placenta is graded in terms of maturity.
As the pregnancy advances, the placenta keeps getting more mature, and right now, it should be of grade 3 maturity, so that is perfectly alright.
Hope this reassures you.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Take care.

I have attached the report, what is worrying me is that I read on net, that grade 3 maturity should be there after 34 weeks , and grade 3 earlier then that means that the baby would be delivered premature because placenta loses its ability to pass on oxygen and nutrients. Is that not the case? Thanks for your answer.

Brief Answer:
This is not a grade 3 placenta image.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
I can still see only the image, not the report.
You are absolutely right, a grade 3 placenta generally occurs only after 37 weeks of pregnancy.
Hypermature placenta indicates that the blood supply to the baby is hampered - diabetes, hypertension, etc.
However in your case, I think everything is normal, because -
1. The image provided does NOT look like a grade 3 placenta.
2. With grade 3 placenta at 29 weeks, the baby would show IUGR - intra uterine growth restriction or the amniotic fluid would be decreased. But this is not the case.
I am sorry, I read the query as 39 weeks pregnancy.
At 29 weeks, it should be grade 1 or XXXXXXX grade 2 placenta.
And the picture also shows a grade 1 - 2 placenta.
So you are right, the imaging centre has made some error in reporting on the placenta.
can you upload the report please ?
Is your pregnancy progressing normally ?
IS there any risk factor - obesity, hypertension, diabetes etc ?

Brief Answer:
Not able to view the report still...

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the appreciation.
I clicked on the new attachment, the report, and it leads me to a page that is blank.
It just says Artemis Hospitals, and then nothing is written or printed, just a plain white blank page !!
Has there been some error in uploading?

If you have the original ultrasound report with you, please scan / take a picture of it and try uploading it again. If you find a problem with the upload, you can mail it to YYYY@YYYY with subject as "Attn: Dr. Aarti Abraham."

I am not sure if you have any more follow ups. If you are unable to reply back to me, you can write to customer support team and request for another chance.
