Question: I have a very special friend with glaucoma who was diagnosed some 25+ years ago. He is legally blind and has only object perception. He has had numerous operations over the years and is about to have another surgery soon. His eye pressure is 48 at this point. He tells me that he has had a second opinion and both doctors feel the surgery is necessary. He is 58 years old and I am so concerned about him. Is there anything that can be done in terms of lifestyle changes or supplements that might him?( YYYY@YYYY .)

Brief Answer:
Control pressure.

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
Nowhere it is more important to control pressure in the eye as in this case.A pressure of 48 is not allowed and all efforts are to be made to preserve even the perception of light that your friend is having.
I am sure doctors are doing their best as far as medication is concerned. You have to see to it that he is having anti glaucoma medication properly.
He is to avoid fluid overload,so he is not supposed to drink more than 3/4glass of water at a time.Fluid overload increases the pressure in the eye.
Proper medication, precautions and surgery should achieve the goal.
