![default](/r/images/default.png)
I have high cholestrol problem from a long time i.e. it gets noticed first when I was of 23 years.
I am taking Razel-F5 . I have gone under lipid profile test this sunday and have high values of total and ldl.
I doing aerobics and Yoga 1 hour daily , 6 days a week. Please suggest what should I follow to bring the values in range and should I change medicine if yes then which salt.
please see details below.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
I have seen your report. It definitely has high LDL cholesterol which is 218.8 mg%.
I have following observations to make in your case.
1. As per ACC (American College of Cardiology) guidelines 2013, anyone with LDL cholesterol more than 190mg% is a candidate of statin therapy which you are already taking in form of Razel (rosuvastatin). However there is no role of Finofibrate (the F component in your medicine) in such cases of dyslipedemia.
2. You should continue with yoga and other physical exercises. Keep the lipid content of your diet in moderation and take only good fats (unsaturated fats). It would be worthwhile to consult a dietician and obtain a diet chart.
3. As far as medication is concerned, I normally do not give finofibrates to my patients with such a profile. In fact it has no role at triglyceride levels of 146mg%. I gradually increase the dose of rosuvastatin in such patients and carefully looking for any side effects. These include muscle pain/ muscle weakness and rarely jaundice. I would request you to discuss with your physician and get your prescription modified accordingly.
4. Try to maintain optimum weight with a body mass index of ~23.
Feel free to discuss further.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
