What Does This Ultrasound Report Of Uterus Indicate?
I recently had two miscarriages within six months. My doctor is on vacation until August so I need some help reading my test results please.
Findings:
3 subserosal fibroids the largest measuring 4.8x 5.4x6.1cm (prosterior)
could this be a cause for miscarriage?
Also, my uterus measures 6.1x5.6x6.1cm is this normal
I am 35 years old. I have heard that the size of my ovaries can determine how fertile I am. My ovaries measure as follows:
rt: 2.5x2.8x1.9 cm
left: 4.1x3.7x3.2 cm
is this a healthy size?
and finally the ultra-sound detected a minimum amount of cul-de-sac fluid? What does this mean and should I be concerned?
Other than this, all of my blood test for clotting, pap smear, etc. came back normal. Can you give me an idea of what could've caused my miscarriages please?
Thank you!
Various tests need to be done
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Subserosal fibroids are the fibroids present on the outer wall of the uterus. They do not distort the cavity of the uterus ( where the pregnancy implants) and are not known to have any effect on the pregnancy or conception. So, they are not the likely cause for abortion.
The uterine and ovarian size is completely normal. Small amount of fluid in the cul De sac is usually present after ovulation, and if ovulation is not there, then it can occur in pelvic infection. There are other symptoms of pelvic inflammatory disease like pain in lower abdomen, abnormal discharge from vagina and pain during intercourse. If all these symptoms are there, then you should consult your OBGYN specialist for proper examination and treatment.
First trimester miscarriages are usually due to chromosomal anomalies in the fetus, and the chromosomal anomaly occurs spontaneously in the fetus with no corresponding anomaly in the parents. However, since you have two miscarriages, you need to be investigated and following tests should be done:
1. Chromosomal analysis( karyotype) of both you and your partner.
2. Antiphospholipid antibody profile testing
3. Blood sugar fasting and post prandial levels
4. Antinuclear antibody testing
5. Thyroid hormone levels and Anti Thyroid Peroxidase antibody testing.
All of the above tests are done to rule out any chromosomal aberration, Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, Diabetes mellitus, Systemic lupus erythematosus , Rheumatoid arthritis, and thyroid disorders, because all these are the common causes for first trimester miscarriages.
However, even after doing all the tests, the cause of recurrent miscarriages is not found in 50% cases, but the positive aspect is that even after repeated first trimester miscarriages, the chances of next successful pregnancy is 70% in such females. Therefore, I suggest you not to worry, plan your pregnancy atleast 6 months after the last miscarriage, and take folic acid tablet daily from2 months prior to planning conception as it is known to decrease the chances of abortion and decrease the incidence of congenital anomalies in the fetus.

Wishing you good health.
