What Does White Tissue Like Discharge In Urine Suggest?

Question: I am a 40 year old female. I've had what looked like little pieces of white tissue paper coming out in my urine for the past few months. No pain or burning anywhere. My doctor took a urine sample about two months ago and told me there was no blood or infection and that I needed to drink more. For the past week this has started happening again and this morning I passed a larger clump of white tissue about 3-4mm in size. It was more round, like a cotton ball consistency, and had a spot of blood on it. I did collect it in an old medication container. Although I'm not sure it would be of any use to a doctor. There was no blood in the urine itself, just imbedded in the tissue. I've had no pain or burning. No weight loss.

I have been having issues with my cycle over the past six months and have had several ovarian cysts, right now after a transvaginal ultrasound this week I know that I have three small ones on my ovary. My doctor isn't concerned and is just observing. However it is effecting my cycle as I've skipped a period. I don't think this tissue piece is vaginal, as it looks more like a bigger piece of what I've had coming out in my urine over the past few months. But I wanted to mention the cysts just so you know.

I've put a call in to the doctor but I'm worried. Like I said, I've had no pain or burning, no weight loss. A little fatigue but I have been fighting off withdrawal effects from weaning down off of Effexor for my anxiety after it was giving me hives and a high heart rate. I don't know if the Effexor could have effected my kidneys? I had a complete metabolic panel done in July and it showed no abnormalities.

Also worried about forms of cancer. Are there cancers related to a symptom like this that I am susceptible to at age 40?

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you are passing white particles in urine without any urinary symptoms since couple of months .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Have yo ever done ultrasound Scanning of abdomen ?
2) Have you done urine culture to rule out urinary infection ?
3) Are you diabetic?

White particles in urine, is something common especially in women. Having white stuff in urine without any other accompanying symptom may not be a cause for concern;and there is nothing to be worried about.

Sediments in urine may appear as white suspension. When you have sediments like phosphate debris may cause the urine to have white particles. This isn’t something to worry so much about because the white stuff are detached cells of walls of the lining of your urinary tract. Presence of yeast and fungus in urinary tract may cause the detaching of the urinary tract wall lining.

Get following basic tests done
1)Routine urine test and culture done to be assured of absence of UTI
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen to rule out Phosphate calculi

As regards your irregular monthly period it may be due to incoming premenopausal symptoms and needs to be confirmed by your Gynecologist .

Please do not think of an cancer which is most unlikely without any predominant symptoms like blood in urine or excessive bleeding during menstruation .

Ensure to drink more water .This will help to keep the dilute

But the piece that passed this morning, which has been the biggest so far, did have a spot of blood in it. There was no blood in the actual urine, but there was blood in the piece of tissue.

I have had two ultrasounds in the past two months but I'm not sure either are the specific one you mentioned. One was this past week and was transvaginal to look for cysts on the ovaries. The other was done because I had slightly high liver enzymes. So it was an abdominal ultrasound and I know they looked at my kidneys but would this ultrasound have included the bladder? Is this the kind of ultrasound you mean or should I ask for something different? Both were normal except for a slight amount of fat in my liver so am now working on weight loss.

Mainly I was worried about bladder/kidney cancer having to do with the tissue pieces and blood within the piece of tissue.

Thanks for follow up and highlighting results of your previous ultrasounds .

Ultrasound of abdomen done for any reason includes visualization of all the organs in abdominal cavity that includes kidney ,bladder ,and intestines ,liver ,gall ,bladder pancreas,ovaries ,uterus etc

Since both of them are reported to be normal there is no reason for you to suspect or get worried about cancer of kidney or bladder .

The small blood particles you noticed with white sediment is very common that happens when the lining of the kidney or bladder gets detached and not to be worried for .

Ensure to drink more water to produce more urine .

Thank you. I have one more question. I have noticed over the past week as well that I have mild swelling in both calves that will leave "dents" when pushed on that last for over a minute if not more. Just on the front of both calves and slightly into the ankle area. I am on very high doses of antihistamines due to the hives I was experiencing with the withdrawal of Effexor. Could this be causing this? Or could it have something to do with what we've been talking about already in the posts above? I had this when I was pregnant ten years ago and they called it pitting edema. I'm not pregnant now though. I'm also about 60 lbs overweight. Could it be related to that, or to the slight amount of fat in my liver?

The swelling of the both the calves could be a postural edema or over weight but surely not related to the issue that we have discussed .

Keep your legs raised during sleep by keeping extra pillow below the legs and ankle and observe for any change .It should help to reduce the same ,
