My age is 74 years and 5'10" in height and am over-weight at 310 lbs. I do not know my serum uric acid levels, in fact I don't know what serum uric acids are. All I know is the joints in my foot and ankle are swollen and painful. Thanks for any dietary advice you can offer until I can get an appointment to see my doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
It is not essential that you have gout if you have pain and swelling over joints.
Serum Uric acid levels reflects the uric acid levels in the body which causes Gout.
You might be having rheumatoid arthritis or other problem.
Dietary advice given for Gout is that you should take low protein diet , that means you should not take excess of pulses , red meat. You should not take any alcohol specially beer.
I would suggest you to get evaluation to rule out what problem actually you have.
Good Luck.
