Brief Answer:
It means dilatation of pelvis of kidney of fetus..

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for contacting health care magic.

pelvicalyceal ectasia means dilatation of the renal pelvis due to back pressure changes in kidney of the fetus secondary to a urinary obstruction at the level of either the uretero-vesical junction or the bladder neck or urethra.
This is commonly seen in fetuses with possible posterior urethral valves.

A diameter or dilatation of 10mm in fetus is taken as cut off after which chances of loss of fetal kidney function are high and the fetus require a intrauterine surgical correction of obstruction by a pediatric surgeon.
Till then the size is duly followed up with ultrasound and monitored.
Usually the dilatation remain less than 10mm and surgery is done after delivery.

Intrauterine surgeries are risky and there are chances of abortion in inexperienced hands,so please wait and gollow up with scan 2 weekly.

Regards.
