What Is Para Nasal Sinus?

default
Posted on Sat, 16 Jul 2016
Question: HISTORY: I am suffering from shortness of breathing (sometimes, not all the days) since last 3 weeks. I was a smoker now I quite it. I used to suffer from cough since my childhood. I do Snoring during sleep.
ACTIVITY DONE: I have done some tests like: PFT, ECG, ECO, TMT, Chest X-Ray, all are normal. (If required I can attached all reports). Finally I consulted with one ENT Doctor, he has suggested to do "CT SCAN OF PARA NASAL SINUS" (report attached) and he asked that holes of nose are being blocked. This needs to be operated, and he gave me one spray "FLUTICONE-FT" to use.

QUESTIONS: 1) What is PARA NASAL SINUS and how this can affect breathing?
2) Whats the attached report "CT SCAN OF PARA NASAL SINUS" is saying?
3) Is it curable through medicines rather than operation for my case?
4) After taking MONTEK AB (1 tab after dinner, refer by different doctor) I feel good and feel breathing trouble very rare, In this context can u refer any medicine for PARA NASAL SINUS or will take FLUTICONE-FT as usual?
5) Pl share some good suggestion or recommendation from your end?

Brief Answer:
Please attach your reports

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

The paranasal sinuses are air-filled spaces located within the bones of the skull and face. Primary function of these air filled spaces is to make the skull light and to warm the air we breath in to body temperature.

I shall me more informative if you can attach your reports here

Brief Answer:
No need for surgery as of now

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the reports.

I have gone through the reports attached.

Most of the readings are normal except CT of sinuses mentioning Polyp.

Polyp is small soft tissue mass growing in the sinus. Most of times it regresses on its own and sometimes need medication for the same.

Rarely they may grow more to produce pressure symptoms like headache and giddiness, then they may have to be surgically removed.

2) Whats the attached report "CT SCAN OF PARA NASAL SINUS" is saying?
mentioned earlier polyp, also you have a deviated nasal septum. If you have recurrent colds, nasal block and headache then you may have to get the deviated septum treated surgically.

3) Is it curable through medicines rather than operation for my case?
Yes, polyp can regress on medications but deviated septum needs surgery if the symptoms do not come down with medications

4) After taking MONTEK AB (1 tab after dinner, refer by different doctor) I feel good and feel breathing trouble very rare, In this context can u refer any medicine for PARA NASAL SINUS or will take FLUTICONE-FT as usual?

I prefer Montek LC over fluticone FT, less side effects and effective too.

5) Pl share some good suggestion or recommendation from your end?

Steam inhalations with eucalyptus in it. this will ease your symptoms and prevent worsening if you do it in the initial stages of the cold you get.
Also use nasal decongestant drops like Nasivion which may reduce symptoms in an instant.
Avoid contact with people having viral cold, maintain hygiene.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Risk of Myocardial infarction

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the follow up.

Sorry for the delay.

TMT test indicates that you are at risk of getting myocardial infarction (Heart attack).

This is nothing to do with your weakness during physical activity.

You may have to cut down on cholesterol in diet to reduce the risk.

Wish you good health.

Regards,
