Is Vocal Fatigue Causing Severely Enlarged Tonsils And Adenoids?

Hi Doc, I would like your help. I am a singing student and for 6 months my tonsils have been really enlarged. I consulted my GP who prescribed two antibiotics: BIO-METRONIDAZOLE and a general antibiotic (penicillin.) Unfortunately, my tonsils remained swollen. They are not painful at all but my throat feels thicker. I have also been told that I snore constantly, this is strange as I have never been a snorer. I also sometimes see white matter on the back of my throat. My voice seems to be hoarse frequently so I saw an ENT and had an edoscopy performed. He explained that my tonsils and adenoids were severely enlarged and that I have to get them removed. What is this condition called? And is it the cause of my vocal fatigue? PLEASE HELP???

Hi,

Enlarged tonsils and adenoids can be treated for three weeks with an antibiotic, for one to two weeks, anti-inflammatory and decongestant medicines.
* Povidone iodine gargles.
* Otrivin like nasal decongestant drops.

If this treatment fails then you may need proper evaluation as to the need for removal of tonsils to improve your voice as well as to stop snoring too. Also watch for preliminary infection in sinuses causing post-nasal drip and infection causing tonsil and adenoid enlargement.. If present then a CT scan of sinuses and an appropriate management should help you out.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
