What Is The Cause And Treatment For Hypothyroidism?

Question: Hi, my wife is 28yr old and she recently had thyroid test; as per the report she has hypothyroidism with the result as 8. what could be the possible reasons and what best could be done to curb this. we also are keen to plan a baby. is it suggested at this stage or their could be complications. kindly help.

Thanks for the query.
The most common causes for hypothyroidism are either iodine deficiency or an autoimmune disorder called as hashimotos thyroiditis.
The treatment is very simple and consists of taking thyroid hormones orally.
You must make sure to control your thyroid levels before attempting pregnancy so that neither mother nor child faces any consequences.
a hypothyroid state during pregnancy can affect the development of child in the womb.
There is nothing to worry regarding this since it is a very common problem and can be corrected very easily.
