Question : Iam required to administer Ampicillin 345mg intravenously qid to a patient.There is an allergy to Penicillin noted, I have Flucloxacillin 250mg in stock, how would I calculate the dose?

Flucloxacillin is a member of the penicillin family of medications and would also cause an allergic response in some one with penicillin allergy.
It cannot be used in these persons.

He or she needs an anti biotic from another family of drugs. The choice of antibiotic would depend on the type of infection present, the result of any cultures that may have been done, the presence of any other allergies and what medications are available to administer.
