Brief Answer:
Hello

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
noted your concern.
On average, a type 1 diabetes patient reuires around 0.3 to 0.5 units/kg/day. So most people with type 1 would requre 40 to 50 units insulin per day.
The HbA1c in a 75 year old man with long standing Type 1 DM with out complications and good hypoglycemia awareness woulbe between 6.5% to 7%. But someone with long standing diabetes and complications, it would be around 7 to 7.5%.
Yes, you can have beer, but maxium 2 units. Please make sure to take some carbohydrate with alcohol and check blood glucose before sleeping.
Best weight for someone in 75 with height of 5.7 is around 66 to 68 kilos.

Binu

Thank you for your detailed answer. Question on the beer, when you say units, do you mean two bottles of regular beer? If so , can he have more than two beers if they are light as described below?
1. He has Miller lite: 12 oz, 96 calories, 2.4 carb. Did not list the alcohol content. I will go on line for that. OR
2. Budweiser Select 55 :
12 oz: 55 calories, 2.4 % alcohol, and1.9 carbs

Brief Answer:
2 units beer is 2 pints

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Thank you for the reply.
One unit of beer is equivalent to a pint of normal strength beer ( 2.5% to 4% alcohol ) ( miller and Budweiser is okay). SO he can have maximum 2 pints per day. And please remember to have at least 2 alcohol free days in a week.

Sorry, still need better idea of measurement. An 8 ounce can of beer is equal to a half pint.
1. So 2 units of beer, from your answer, is 4 cans of beer.
2. Does it matter if the alcohol content is less in lite beer vs regular beer?
3. Does it matter if the carbs are less in a lite beer. The Budwieiser 55 has 2.5 % and 55 carbs. Miller does not list theirs, I will go on line

Hello

Detailed Answer:
Good day,

1.Yes, you are right. 4 cans of light beer is 2 units.

2. In light beer alcohol content is lower comparred to regular beer , but make sure about the carbohydrate content as well. You may be able to read the carbohydrate content in the label.

The lesser the carbs, the better
