What Should Be Finasteride Dosage For Male Pattern Baldness?
Question: 4 years back when I was in USA, I started taking propecia recommended by a doctor there for treating my hairloss.
When I returned to India 3 years back, the local drug store could not understand propecia and everyone here calls it by the name finasteride. So i started taking finasteride by company "Dr. Reddy's" sold as "Finast".
I have been taking Finast since then which is 5mg doze. But recently I read online that that 5 mg doze is for prostate patients and 1 mg doze is for hairloss treatment. I just wanted to check if this would cause any issues. I had tried to change the doze to 1mg but felt that my hairloss started to return. I'm afraid if there would be any long term effects. Please suggest what to do.

Brief Answer:
Finasteride
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic,
Yes, Tablet finasteride 5 mg is the dose for prostatic hypertrophy and 1 mg is the dose for male pattern baldness. You need not worry about long term side effects. Finasteride is known to cause sexual side effects but they are reversible and seen when you are taking it. They do not cause long term effects.
You may take 1 mg of Finasteride from now on and add 5 % Minoxidil solution 1 ml twice a day. Get this prescribed by your dermatologist. These are prescription medicines and I do not approve the pharmacist giving you finasteride without prescription. If you had seen a doctor this mistake of 5 mg would not have happened.
Hope this helped,
Take care.
