When Is Intake Of Drugs Advisable For A Patient Undergoing Colonoscopy?
Question: I am having a colonoscopy on Tuesday and the nurse told me to take my morning medications after I take the second prep which is two hours before I have to be at the office. The instructions on the sheet that came with the prep says to take the medications 1 hour before I take the prep because my body may not absorb the medications. I left a message for the nurse to get back to me tomorrow but it takes them a long time to answer messages. What should I do take them before or after the prep the morning of the colonoscopy? Please advise.
Brief Answer:
Take the drugs one hour before starting the prep!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
It is advised that you take the dugs at least 1hour before starting the prep. This way, the body would have absorbed most if not all of it before you start the prep. This is because the prep will lead to rapid transit and if medications have not been taken earlier, they can actually be washed out without being absorbed.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
