Brief Answer:
Needs workup for
basal ganglia disorders
Detailed Answer:
Good day XXXX!
My name is Dr S Khan and i would like to help you regarding your
Resting tremors of hands. I want to inform you Mr Mckay that such presentation at such a geriatric age indicates the basal ganglia involvement of the brain. If you have Tremor,
Subtle decrease in dexterity, Decreased arm swing on the first-involved side, Soft voice, Decreased facial expression ,Sleep disturbances
Disturbed sleep patterns, Decreased sense of smell, Symptoms of autonomic dysfunction (eg,
constipation, sweating abnormalities,
sexual dysfunction, seborrheic
dermatitis),A general feeling of weakness, malaise, or lassitude, Depression or anhedonia or Slowness in thinking Then i am afraid your Work up is necessary to sort out All these presentations of basal ganglia disorders most probably
parkinsons disease.
Usually The most common initial finding is a resting tremor in an upper extremity like in your case .Over time, experience progresses bradykinesia( slow movements), rigidity, and gait difficulty,Axial posture becomes progressively flexed and strides become shorter, Postural instability (balance impairment) is a late phenomenon. But One can hamper the progression by having a good follow up and medicine compliance.
So my advice, seek the help of a
neurologist who is competent and sympathetic and let him help you before it worsens. You will be prescribed with some workup and some medicines once confirmed which will help to resolve the progression and help the parkinsons or any other basal ganglia disorder slow down.
I wish you very good luck Mr Mckay and take some very good care of yourself.
If you have any more queries for me please feel free to ask i would be more than happy to respond other wise i request you to kindly close the discussion and rate the answer as per your experience.
May the odds be ever in your favour.
Regards
Dr. S Khan
