Will Spinal Surgery Be Postponed When Osteoporosis Is Detected?
Question: My pre surgical dexascan for spinal fusion shows -3 for osteoporosis of the femoral hip.
I have an appointment to see a specialist. I am wondering if she will recommend the spinal fusion be delayed due to the osteoporosis. Your thoughts, please.

Brief Answer:
Surgery will not be postponed.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
I understand your concern.
Spinal surgery will not be postponed if an osteoporosis is detected at Femoral hip.
Also there exists some degree of Osteoporotic changes even in the spine segments which are scheduled for operation.
Osteoporosis per se is not a contraindication for spine surgery.
Laminectomy/spinal fusion will be planned as usual.
Post your further queries if any,
Thank you.
