hello. My 19 year old daughter woke me up this morning saying she was very dizzy and felt like the room was spinning. She is very healthy and active college student and she has never had these symptoms before. We do not have medical insurance and can not afford to take her to the doctor. Could she have vertigo? If she does what can she do at home to help her? She has finals this week at school.

Hi,
First of all vertigo and dizziness are the same thing, they are synonyms. I am sorry to say you havent given enough information to pinpoint the cause of your daughter's dizziness.
It may have been caused by not sleeping properly, not eating properly, a problem in her ear, neurological problems, migraine and also as the side effect of certain medication (these are some of the major reasons for dizziness.
So if this is an isolated incident and doesnt repeat again, I believe its safe for you to not visit a doctor. But if she get dizzy again and for no apparent reason, I would recommend a checkup.
Hope this helped.
