20 Month Old Diagnosed With Foot And Mouth Disease, Has Mouth Sores With Fever, Bleeding Gums. Any Cure ?

my 20 mo old was diagnosed with hand foot and mouth disease on Monday after breaking out with mouth sores following a 101 fever . His sores and pain do not seem to be lessening. In fact if his gums are touched, they now bleed . He was eating some soft foods but we can t even get him to eat ice cream now. the only thing he is taking is pediasure. Shouldn t his mouth be starting to look better by now?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi
Hand foot and mouth disease is due to viral infection. Give paracetamol syrup for fever in prescribed dosage and try to give plenty of oral fluids and soft diet so that can be swallowed easily without much chewing and you can apply some oral local anesthetic ointments on oral sores to decrease the pain after the advise of your pediatrician. As this disease is contagious take precautions to prevent the spread of the virus to other siblings and children
