2.5 Year Old Baby, Suffering From Stomach Pain, Fever. Taking Motrin. Should I Meet A Doctor?

My 2 and a half year old has been saying her tummy hurts for a couple of days but had been acting fine. I picked her up
From day care today and they said she has been fussy. She has a temperature of 103.5 but the Motrin has brought it down some... Do I need to take her to the er or just wait and go to the doctor in the morning

Pediatrician 's  Response
Yes, you should take her in as at her age there are lots of infections that can cause a stomach ache that are due to a stomach virus. She might have a urinary tract infection or even strep throat and with that fever I would not wait any longer to have a doctor take a look at her.

Hi,
It seems that your child might be having gastro-intestinal infection and requires attention as baby is having high temperature and requires medicines.
Only Mortin will not work as it gives temporary relief.
Baby may require antibiotic medicine course.
Take her to ER and get examined.
Give enough water.
Ok and take care.

Pediatrician Dr. Taher Y Kagalwala's  Response
Dear Jessica,

If she is otherwise all right - I mean she does not have symptoms like loose bowels, urinary pain, cough, cold or any other problem, you could wait till the morning. However, if she continues to spike with temperatures above 102 F despite Motrin, you should probably take her to the ER tonight.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Stomach ache in kids could be because of various causes. Even a throat infection could cause stomach pain in them. The exact cause of stomach pain can be ascertained only after complete physical examination.

Please monitor for danger signs. The danger signs are
1. Poor feeding or repeated vomiting.
2. Lethargy.
3. Loss of consciousness.
4. Fits or seizures.

Presence of any of danger signs is a definite indication to take your kid to ER.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
