3 Year Kid, Pain In Hands, Fever. X Ray Taken, What Does Findings Mean?
Hi, Good Day to all,
Actually the problem i am writing here happened with my son. My son's age is 3 years 8 months and he just started his school last month (april 2013) some days back he told some pain in his left hand (we took it as normal and thought may be he fell down while playing in the school, though a little swelling was there near the thump and index finger but he was moving the hand and fingers normally) but after 4 - 5 days he was a victim of high fever (39.5 +). I went to a well known pediatrician and did some blood test and found very high infection especially for c-reactive protein was round 100 that he treated and cured now there is no fever and the c-reactive protein is also normal.. While the checkup i told him about his hand and checked and told may be some bone is grown but better to see the Orthopedic and asked for the x-ray also. Now i have appointment on 9th May with the Ortho. but i got the x-ray report yesternight. here i am sharing the content of the report. Please see and advise what to do in this situation.
"Loss of normal contour with sclerotic changes coupled with bone fragment seen involving left 2nd metacarpal bone distally and laterally as seen in frontal projection.
In obligue projection this is seen as loss of normal density of the medullary component involving left 1st metacarpal bone distally necessitating blood data correlation and further evaluation to attach signification to this finding"
hallo dear friend
i have studied your case
X RAY report is not giving single perfect dignosis
it needs to be clinically co-related
it can be osteomyelitis of metacarpal bones ,due to injury to hand
it can be benign swelling
current blood reports must be corelated
is ther e any swelling or stifness increasing
low grade fever now also?
for further query contact on drvaibhavg@yahoo.com
No specific diagnosis is possible from this report.
It looks like a local problem...
It is an indication for further tests – x-rays of other bones / further laboratory tests
He may need observation and follow up to exclude systemic causes
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
