4 Year Kid, Fever, Sore Knee, Bump On Joints. Keeping Hydrated With Gatorade. What Could Be This?
my daughter is 4 yrs old. she woke 2 days ago with fever, and i thought it was from heat exhaustion as she was out too long in heat day&evening before. her fever ranges from 38.7 down to 36.8 and keeps going up and down. i have been treating with children's acetaminophen and keeping her hydrated with gatorade to get her electrolytes back up. along with fever she is now complaining of sore knee and elbow and she has something of a pronounced bump on inside of both joints. she has no swollen glands, no marks or bites on her body and has told me she did not injur herself anywhere when playing. i am checking her temperature every hour and trying to keep her body temp down by cool baths and sponging her. what is this? do i take her to hospital?
This may either be what is called a reactive arthritis (where a simple viral infection of the body leads to inflammation of the joints with fever) or the beginning of a rheumatic illness (the more serious possibility). In either case, you need to take her to a pediatrician during the routine hours. A visit to the ER is not necessary. Please continue to use electrolyte solutions and paracetamol as you have been doing.

4 Year Kid, Fever, Sore Knee, Bump On Joints. Keeping Hydrated With Gatorade. What Could Be This?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Fever and joint pains may result from a viral illness. Continue pediatric acetaminophen in prescribed dose for fever and pain. Is there any swelling of joints? Is she having limping with pain? Reactive arthritis also present with joint pains and fever. If there is a high grade fever, do tepid sponging with lukewarm water. Give her rest. Consult the pediatrician for physical examination and for treatment. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
