5 Year Old Suffering From Swollen Cheek, Fever. What Is It?
Hello, My nephew aged 5 years was suffering with fever for past 3 days and we have noticed enlargement of right side cheek since yesterday. Urine analysis show : 5-10 pus cells, Albumin - trace, RBC - 10-15, Epithelial cells absent. The doctor has given paracetamol 250 mg tablet and fever is reduced to some extend. Please suggest me what may the disease? Whom to consult?
Swelling of the cheek could be because of mumps. A physical examination by your doctor will help in the diagnosis. MMR vaccine given at the age of 15 months helps in prevention of the illness.
In a child with mumps symptomatic treatment and monitoring is is required. Isolation of the child is important as this is a communicable disease.
Do not send him to school if the diagnosis is confirmed.
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
