58 Yrs Old, No Sign Of Menopause, Recommended Hysterosonography. Now Periods Heavy, Not Stopping. Cause?
I am 58 years old and have no signs of menopause yet. My sister is 61 and she has had no signs either. When I went for my yearly exam with the gyno....he said this was not normal and recommended a hysterosonography. My periods had been normal before this exam. About 1 week after this exam...I started me period with a surprisingly heavy flow and I am still bleeding 9 days later. Not extremely heavy....but still bleeding. Could something have happend during this exam to cause this bleeding? It was somewhat paiful during this proceedure. This is just very strange to me.
In this age group, there are several causes of heavy bleeding like effect of external estrogen therapy, vaginitis/ endometritis, unnoticed polyp, uterine or cervical fibroid, hyperplasia, carcinoma etc. Blunt trauma usually does not cause long time heavy bleeding.
You need to undergo above mentioned investigation along with pap test to rule out the possible pathology. D & C may need to carry out. Kindly consult with gynecologist for suggestive measures.
Good luck.
