Hi,

The report suggests that you husband has probably had TB and this has spread to his abdomen causing some changes in the structures in the abdomen with fluid accumulation. This is what is causing him pain. This should however be confirmed with sputum and blood test and if it confirms that it is TB then treatment for the same has to be started. It will help resolve all these changes. You should see a doctor who will do this for you.

Hope this helps.

Radiologist Dr. Vivek Chail's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

Tuberculosis is a disease that can affect any organ in the body. Only about 20 to 40% infections are purely restricted to the lungs as per data collected from time to time.

Coming to the CT findings of your husband, there is collection of water in the abdomen (ascites) and thickening of a protective fat layer (omentum) with multiple small lypmphnodes. This might have happened over a period of time and looks like a chronic illness.

The strong suspicion of the disease being tuberculosis needs to be confirmed first. If the ascites is severe it may need drainage. Once confirmed, tuberculosis needs rigorous treatment for up to a year. Any involvement of lungs should also be evaluated.

Please discuss the situation with a TB specialist and go for regular check ups.

Hope this helps
