My husband had an emergency splenectomy 11 months ago. He woke up in pain and by the time they figured out what was wrong his hct.was 24 and he had 1.5 liters of blood in his abdomen. he was "oozing" blood and the splenic capsule had "multiple disruptions"according to pathology. There was no trauma, no warning. He spent 11 days on a vent and had 2 additional surgeries during that time. He had return to normal blood work by 7 months post op, but blood work on 3/12/10 showed wbc-4.0,Rbc 3.8,hgb 12.8,hct 37.5MCV 98.3,MCH33.6 MPV10.8,lymphocyte 51,gran.35,Mono.13 and gran#1.4Giant platelets,RBc morph norm. On 3/31/10 a repeat showed - WBC 6.1,Rbc 3.6,hgb 12.4,Hct.36,MCV 98.4,MCH33.8,platetes clumped,MPV 11.3,Grans 35, lymphs 50,monos 12,gran#2.1,macrocytosis, poikilocytosis slight and giant platelets present. We are going to the hematologist on Tues 5/4 and I spoke to a DR. who had some ideas about this. What are your thoughts?
