Is There Any Contraindication For Taking Birth Control Pill Since There Is No Spleen?
Hi my name is karla and i have history of ITP for seven years . I had splenectomy three years ago that was the solution for my problem. My dermatologist recently prescribed me birth control pills for acne . Is there any contraindication for me since i do not have a spleen anymore?
It is not advisable to take birth control pills after splenectomy. Since there is a risk of formation of blood clots in the veins after removal of spleen and the fact that the combined oral contraceptive pills are also known to cause blood clot in the veins so the risk of clot formation will be increased if these pills are taken for the treatment of acne. Ask your doctor for an alternative effective but a safer drug for the treatment of acne.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
