Acute Constipation. Taking Febuxostat, Fibator, Telma, Minipress And Thyronorm. Why Would This Happen?

My mother is under following medicine-Febustat 80, Fibator, Telma H80, Razo-L, Zoryl 3, Januvia 100, Minipress XL 5mg, Paxidep CR 62.5, Arip MT 5mg, Thyronorm 50, Lonazep 0.5mg, Vizylac and Supracal w.e.f-8/8/13, but she is having acute constipation. Even Duphalac 4 TBSP has no effect and Isabgol 2-3 Tbsp with milk has also not given any relief. Please advice. Actually her doctor is in Delhi as she stays there but she has now to come to Kolkata for 6 months and hence cannot consult her regular physician.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

From mentioned medicines antidepressants (Paxidep) can cause constipation as a side effect. Hypothyroid can also give such symptom.
If she is older than 50, partial bowels obstruction due to colon cancer should be ruled out.

She definitely should visit a doctor. Blood work, thyroid tests, abdominal ultrasound and abdominal x-ray should be done at first. Colonoscopy should be next.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
