Alcoholic. Have Abdominal Pain, Shoulder Blade Pain, Pain Near Hernia. Done CT Scan. Worry?

Hi I have left abdominal pain a couple inches above the belly button and slightly to the left, I have smelly urine, the pain radiates to the back under my left shoulder blade. The pain is often greatest after drinking alcohol. I had a ct scan and nothing came up, however it was revealed I had a hernia near where the pain was coming from, but my doc didn't seem too concerned with that. My doctor then decided to have me do a scope into the stomach. He thinks its heartburn, but it does not feel like that. I did not get the scope because it cost 750 out of pocket, and that was too much money at the time. I'm 32 and have a new baby and really am worried about my health and want to be around a while to help raise him. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Welcome to health care magic! The symptoms you have described go in favour of gastritis. The site and the aggravating factor of the pain point towards the gastritis as the cause. And the hernia has to be specified in detail to assess whether it is potential enough to cause the pain. But with this amount of detail, it is likely that the gastritis might be the culprit and an endoscopy might help confirm the diagnosis. Meanwhile, a regular dietary habit with small frequent meals might create a favourable environment for the ulcer to heal. Alcohol if avoided might help a lot. The doctor will put you on some medications to decrease the acid secretion once he confirms the diagnosis. Take care! Get well soon.
