Hi! I have recently had a glucose tolerance test. My fasting blood glucose was 7.9mmol/l and after the two hour test it was 11.6mmol/l. I am awaiting the test results. Would you consider me to be a diabetic? I am 31 years old, 5ft 10ins and weigh 10 stone.
Hello there, From your test results of the OGTT yes I would say you are a diabetic as you fall way out of the cut off for diagnosis of Diabetes based on international guidelines. You may need to start therapy for which you need to meet a diabetologist who can do further testing if required and start medicines. Also start to maintain a strict diet with no sugars and simple carbohydrates (like white bread, honey,) and increase intake of complex carbohydrates (like whole grains and products). Increase intake of salads and vegetables. Include at least 45 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week in your daily regimen if you do not have any heart related issues. Take care
