Good morning!
If you handed me those labs in my clinic, yes, I would be concerned. According to the current guidelines out, yes, your doctor would probably want you on a low-dose
statin with a diet appropriate for all needs. For example, your
cholesterol needs to be below 200, optimally I like to see 180 and you see this target in many studies. Your
LDL at 153 should be under 100, but with your elevated
glucose I think I would shoot for 70 mg/dl. Your fasting glucose is 114 placing you in a "pre-diabetic" category which is now treated more aggressively than in years prior.
You asked if your labs were "dangerous". Let me say that from what I see I would say you are at high risk for
heart disease either already existing or in the near future complicated by a diabetic process. A patient with this profile would do best to get an exercise plan together - I know, you are in pain - but it will help in the long run. A tape such as "Sit Fit" might help you. Swimming is good.
Your nutritional plan should follow a heart healthy menu with modifications for a "diabetic" even though you are not diabetic yet. Did I answer your concerns? Thank you for visiting me at HCM. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
