Are There Any Complications If Throat Is Itchy And Mucus Filled After Chickenpox Healed?

hello! i am 26 and have chickenpox for the first time. It all started with cold and sore throat, then cough on 5-6 November, the first spot and fever happened on 11th, i did not realise it could be chicken pox. Was feeling very ill, dizzy, kept on getting fever and broke up in rash on 15th. After speaking to my mum, I realised it was chicken pox - never had it as a kid. There was not too much rash, but it was too itchy and painful, and inflamed. Some of the rash i had was the size of a small coin, and I was suspecting it could be something else. I saw the doctor on 18th, and she confirmed it was infected chicken pox. I was given antibiotics to fight the tissue infection and sent home. I took allergy pills to stop itching and applied Calamine lotion + other home remedies to relieve the itching. To mention I had my lymphs inflamed all over my body and in particular round my neck and face. Was very painful and a bit difficult to breath. Rash was mostly on the face (very inflamed), back and stomach. Swelling gone down completely and inflammation started to heal by 22nd and there was no new rash appearing. I am wondering when can I 100% be cured and return to work? i still have scabs and some of them still look bad, a few already fell off and still look red and scarred. also, I got mucus in my throat and throat is a bit itchy. Are there any complications that could have occurred? and shall I undergo blood test later on? thank you.

Hello dear,

Chicken pox being a viral infection greatly reduces the immune status of the body.
As a result of which there is attack of secondary infections. In your case it is present as infection in the respiratory tract.
Management involves:
1. Gargle with warm salt water to relieve throat pain.
2. Analgesics like paracetamol
3. Antibiotics depending upon culture & sensitivity reports to remove the causative organism.
4. Antihistamine preparations can also be used to provide symptomatic relief.
5. Avoid taking cold food & drinks, maintain adequate hydration & take soft, non-spicy foods.

If the symptoms persist, kindly consult an ENT specialist & get a complete clinical examination done.
Investigations like complete blood count & X ray chest will be helpful.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Till then, maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status, exercise regularly and avoid stress.

Wishing you a Good Health.
Take care.
