I took birth control pills for 20 years before having my son at age 35. After that I tried them again, then the NuvaRing for about 3 months, but both caused me to have symptoms including a fast heartbeat, so I had to discontinue hormonal birth control. It took 3 months of NuvaRing for the symptoms to arise. I am wanting to try the Today sponge, but if it were to fail during intercourse (move or dislodge), I would like to know if I would be safe with the Plan B One Step and the hormones it contain, since it's just one dose, not a continued dose as with the pill or the nuvaring. I am aware that this is not to be relied upon for long-term contraception, but want a backup in case upon trying the sponge doesn't work for me.
