Back Pain On Left Side After Urinating. Need To See A Doctor?

My 10 year old boy complains of back pain on left side right after he urinates. It doesn t happen every time but the pain takes his breath away. It slowly goes away after 5-10 minutes. We discuss drinking more water and staying away fom soda & sugary drinks. In the past when he drinks those he urinates more frequently; sometimes every 10 minutes for awhile. The back pain only happens every now and then but is so painful it s scary. Does he just need to drink more water or is there an underlying issue he should see a doctor for?

Hello and welcome to healthcare magic !!
well reading the history given by you, it looks like either your son has developed a urinary tract infection or nephrolithiasis or kidney stones given his history of soda and sugary drinks, but just to be sure get an ultra sound of abdomen and pelvis done and also renal function tests consisting of blood urea, serum creatinine levels. Consult a paediatrician with the reports .
take care

Hi, Kelley.
Thanks for query.
It seems that your son might have urinary infection or stones in the kidneys.
Go for urine check up.
Go for ultra sound of urinary tract to rule out stones.
After reports go for treatment accordingly.
Give plenty of water.
Ok and bye.
