varicose veins can certainly contribute to leg cramps and so having your veins dealt with surgically may help.
narrowing of the arteries in the legs and narrowing of the spinal canal can also cause leg cramps. these cramps are usually claudicant in that they come on with activity and are relieved by rest.
stretching and a warm bath before bed can help and taking quinine sulphate or tonic water at bedtime (a source of quinine sulphate) may also be of benefit.
best wishes
