Been Advised Methylpred And Colcrys For Gout In Thumbs. What Other Medication Can Hasten Recovery?

I have been diagnosed recently with gout in my thumbs. I was taking lisinopril HCT and penicillin which I was told could bring this on. I have since stopped taking those. I responded real well to the shot of steroids give me at the Urgent Care Center but my reg. Dr. prescribed Methylpred 4mg pak and Colcrys which I started Friday. I am not noticing much improvement while taking these. What else could I be doing that would cure this?

Hello dear,

1. Methylpred (pharmacologically Methylprednisolone) is a cortico steroid which reduces the inflammatory process.
2. Colcrys (pharmacologically colchicine) also has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects which are helpful in management of Gout attacks.

So, the medications as prescribed by your Doctor are correct. Kindly continue them as advised.

Other than that, you need to take certain measures to decrease the Uric acid level by:
1. Avoid eating purine-rich foods like red meat, seafood, etc.
2. Eat foods high in vitamin C and vitamin E. Multivitamin supplement can be added to your diet.
3. Eat high-fiber foods to help flush out your body's toxic metabolites.
4. Eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, but avoid mushrooms or cauliflower.
5. Drink lots of water (8 to 10 glasses) to flush excess uric acid from your body.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Take care.
