Hi,
The commonest causes for such symptoms in your age are:
1. Fibroids: non cancerous tumors of the
uterus that increase the size of the uterus and cause bleeding.
2. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding: the exact cause of this is still not known but may occur due to
hormonal changes.
3. decrease in female hormone levels with increasing age that occurs around the menopausal period. Because of this ovulation does not occur and the normal endometrium [lining of the uterus that is shed as menstrual blood] does not grow in a proper fashion leading to irregular and heavy bleeding or spotting.
Having said all this, in any case it is important to rule out
endometrial cancer that may also present with similar picture.
If a patient like you walks in my clinic, I examine her to look for any irregularities in the uterus, do an
ultrasonography and look for fibroids and an
endometrial biopsy to rule out any abnormality especially cancer. So i suggest you see a gynecologist and discuss all this with her.
If you are having pain now, a simple painkiller like
aspirin should provide you relief.
Hope I was able to help you.
Thanks for using Health Care Magic.
