Bleeding In Throat, Painful, Stressed. What Is Going On?

My grandmother had a bleeding throat recently. She said it use to happen 50 years ago to her where sometime a lot of blood would come out but last week she just tasted blood and spat into a tissue and blood was evident. It last for 2 days. She gets no pain or any warning when they occur. In the past the doctor said it was nerves/stress? She is neither of these though?

I have gone through your query regarding bleeding from throat, as it is found in sputum, This all is happening in your grand mother. She says same situation she felt about 50 years back.

Since cough with expectoration and few streakes of blood in sputum indicates that she should be investigated for-

(a) X-Ray chest (P.A. view)

(b) Sputum for Culture and sensitivity & Afb.

(c) Direct Laryngoscopy.

A thorough examination and co-relation of investigation's report will help in making diagnosis. Once the diagnosis is made one may plan for treatment.
