Brain MR Scan Reveals Large Cystic Extra-axial Mass In The Right Cerebellar-pontine. What Does This Mean?
Hi my sister brain MR scan reveals 49.5 x 55.6 x 50.0 mms (SI x ML x AP) size large cystic extraaxial mass in the right cerebello-pontine angle C.S.F. cistern. It is heterogeneously hypointense on T1 weighted, hyperintense on T2 weighted sequence with restricted diffusion. The VII and VIII nerve complexes encased by it. It is displacing and compressing the lower brainstem and cerebellum . Fourth ventricle is compressed and displace to left side. What do you suggest to do?
You have not stated your age, personal habits, family history or co-morbidities
They are fluid filled spaces...
They are space occupying lesions
They present like tumours except for distant spread.
Symptoms arise from pressure on the adjacent structures..
There are different types: developmental anomalies / parasitic cysts - tape worm, Hydatid..so on.
She must be seen by a Neurosurgeon
She will need surgery
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
